DATEV - Setting up a company and its causes

The company DATEV - short for data processing - was founded in Nuremberg in 1966. Around the 65 Tax agent (kind of like tax consultants) have decided with the foundation to now use a software for data collection and accounting by means of EDP.

This decision was preceded by a shortage of accountants and tax consultants in the sixties. At the same time, however, the economy in Germany was growing and every company wanted (or had to) at least have its bookkeeping audited or even prepared by a tax office. Due to the new introduction of the turnover tax system (as we know it today), this was anything but a routine undertaking.

The first steps

To make the data recordable, DATEV first "stamped" it onto punched cards and then read it in itself. These were processed there and the analyses were sent back to the customers. From the 1970s onwards, however, as technology progressed, a computer centre grew up in which the company processed "electronic" data using remote data transmission lines (similar to the Internet).

Today

In the meantime, DATEV has a modern computer centre. There, the company now not only processes the users' data, but also archives it. This provides customers with a more contemporary service that covers both the requirements relevant to operations and those under tax law. Among other things, customers can enjoy the benefits of a Cloud solution use.

Interfaces to DATEV are mandatory

For software packages such as SAP Business OneFor all tax advisors who address German SMEs, an interface to DATEV is a must. After all, small and medium-sized businesses and their tax advisors are closely linked and depend on a smooth data exchange instructed. The versino SAP Business One DATEV interface fulfils this task and more.
