Why time tracking should be popular again

Time tracking is becoming unsexy and time clocks have gone to their final grave. Instead, people are relying on trust. Flexibility in terms of working hours is a big issue. This is a welcome development, as it gives a feeling of integrity and confidentiality at first glance. However, the documentation of Working hours still makes sense in some respects.

Overtime is only possible with time recording

An old but good example is overtime. Despite the lack of time recording, most companies still have fixed working hours. Of course, in many offices you no longer have to clock in at nine o'clock sharp, but there are still time constraints. This adapts to the fact that you can sometimes leave the workplace earlier. However, you can also stay longer if necessary. Or there is the  E-mailthat are quickly answered at the weekend. What is done briefly, accumulates in the end. However, these overtime hours remain a feeling that employees have. The management cannot know anything about it, because the time is not recorded anywhere. Especially in the Service this is a big issue, as employees often work off-site and have to react flexibly to customers.

Time recording does not mean control

Time recording is not a means of control in this respect - because one can also serve hours idly. Rather, the personnelManagement give them the opportunity to recognise overload in good time. Of course, there are also staff members who speak up when they are overworked. However, many are overwhelmed with the assessment of how much work needs to be done in how much time. Especially in flexible fields of work where everyone works independently on different tasks and there are few possibilities for comparison. If you notice that you are overloaded, you can talk to someone. Maybe the person likes to surf the net for an hour at lunchtime or takes a longer lunch break and stays longer in the evening.

Time recording as performance recording

Another advantage of time recording is accounting. Here, time recording becomes the Performance recording. Relevant for services or when projects are charged according to time and effort, because customers like to have extra requests, orders drag on due to non-calculated efforts and projects change during their execution. Of course, in most cases employees are required to document their workload in terms of time. But in stressful phases, something usually falls by the wayside. Lucky (financially) for the client, stupid for your company and everyone involved.
Furthermore, time tracking is a good source of data for calculations. If you notice that a project is taking too much time, you can renegotiate the conditions with the client or recalculate processes. The survey is also useful for future quotations.

Obligation to record time

A "mini" fact that also speaks for time recording are 450-euro jobs. Here, companies are even obliged to document working hours. A simple time sheet is sufficient, but if you have many mini-jobbers, it makes sense to be able to calculate their working time as a resource in order to check the company's profitability.

Time recording structures companies

In fact, time recording, which is so frowned upon today, can become a really popular tool again. After all, recording working hours is neither good nor bad. It is a management decision how to use it. As a means of control or as an aid and relief for healthy working hours, Task management and a source of data for business calculations. Of course, time recording can also initially lead to the need to restructure processes and pay some employees more. In the long run, however, this makes sense for the healthy growth and competitiveness of the company. In the end, everyone invests time in their work - whether documented or not.

Software integration

A good way to integrate time and attendance in a modern way is to use software integration. Most companies today work digitally in some form or another, and data exchange takes place through systems such as ERP solutions takes place. This can also be an order-related activity recording. The times recorded for orders and/or projects add up to the (productive) working time. In addition, activities can be traced and identified in terms of time.

Also mobile: time and travel expense recording, including booking to the project

MARIProject Grants extremely variable Time DocumentaryYou can mark certain services for a project or determine pure attendance times, both in the office on your workplace computer and on the move via the Internet, smartphone or tablet (Android, iOS).

The same applies to travel expense recording: for example, you collect your travel expenses on the road with your smartphone, photograph the receipts (receipts, etc.), assign both to the project and settle all costs together internally (expense report).

Through the integration of time and travel expense recording into the overall system, the costs are taken into account in a timely manner both in accounting and in the analysis.

I enjoyed reading the article a lot. Especially the fact that time tracking has nothing to do with surveillance. Of course, there are also employers who want to track their employees at every turn. But they also existed before the age of digitalisation.
However, online time recording systems like ours have a big advantage: the recorded times can be viewed by both employer and employee. This means that employers automatically create transparency when they switch to a digital solution.

An exact, written documentation of the activities with a time schedule can also be a good tool in court. If a dispute arises with an end customer, it is possible to show exactly what was done, when, where and by whom. Some of our customers that has already helped a lot.
