Stock transfer (SAP Business One)

A document that updates the quantities per warehouse when items are transferred from one warehouse to another.
In a perpetual inventory system, this document also leads to a journal entry reflecting the change in the accounting system. The document also refers to stock that is transferred to a customer's warehouse and sold on consignment.

A stock transfer is used to move goods between different locations. Store in SAP Business One. It can be found in the menu Warehouse management > Stock transactions and enables the optimal distribution of stocks within a company.

Request for stock transfer

Employees without authorisation to create a stock transfer can create a stock transfer request.
Authorised employees can convert this request into a stock transfer.
Stock transfer requests are helpful when goods are to be moved between warehouses to avoid bottlenecks.

Use in the Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

Stock transfers can be proposed by the MRP assistant as part of material requirements planning (MRP).
If the "Stock transfer requests" option is activated in the MRP assistant, the system suggests stock transfers between warehouses with available stock.
The article requirement may result from open requests for stock transfer.
The scheduling assistant takes expected receipts from these requests into account if the "Execute via warehouse" option has been selected.

Stock level

If the company-wide stock level falls below the level defined in the "Required (purchasing MU)" field Quantitythe MRP assistant suggests a minimum quantity in order to achieve the required stock level.

Other

The stock transfer request can be used to move components between warehouses if the quantity in one warehouse is insufficient but the total quantity is sufficient for production.
The MRP assistant can also be used without the MRP function activated.
There is a function that can be used to request a stock transfer in the warehouse.

Stock transfer supports effective warehouse management and helps to distribute stock in line with demand and avoid bottlenecks in the production process.
