A decimal unit based on the gram that measures weight. Examples are microgram, milligram or kilogram.
In SAP Business One denotes the Unit of weight the unit of measurement for determining the weight of Articles. It is used in various areas of the system, in particular in sales documents, master data and the logistics.
Core functions and applications:
- Sales receipts: The weight and volume of items can be displayed and calculated in sales documents, provided the corresponding master data is stored.
- Automatic calculation: The system can automatically calculate the weight of articles on the basis of stored master data.
- Customisation: Weight units can be changed, but this only affects the document total, not individual line items.
- Unit groups: When converting units of measure, the weight factor can be taken into account so that items are purchased in cartons, for example, but sold in kilograms or pounds.
- Integration in master data: Weight information is saved in the item master data, usually under "Sales" or "Purchasing".
- Logistical significance: Weight and volume influence shipping and receiving processes within the supply chain.
- Intrastat-messages: An additional unit may be required for certain regulatory reports.
- Conversion: The system enables unit of measure conversions for complex scenarios in which products are bought and sold in different units.
