Component Article (SAP B1)

A purchased item that has been purchased by a business partner according to the Specifications of the Company and shall be used in unmodified form for the proper production of a superordinate article is required.

Component articles in SAP Business One

Component articles are articles that are used as components of a superordinate product in a Parts list (Bill of Materials, BOM) are kept. They form the basis for production, assembly and Material Requirements Planning in SAP Business One.

Use in the parts list

A bill of materials describes how an end product is manufactured. The component items are the subordinate elements that are required for production. Depending on the production structure, these can be

  • Stock items (e.g. screws, raw materials)
  • Parts list items (e.g. semi-finished products with their own parts list)
  • Phantom article (non-stock-keeping structural units)
  • Articles of the type labour (e.g. manual activities)
  • resources (e.g. machines, personnel)
  • Text objects (e.g. instructions)

Management in the article master

Each component article is maintained in the article master. Important tabs:

  • Inventory dataWarehouse management, series/batch management
  • Planning dataMRP-relevant fields such as procurement method, minimum quantity, lead time
  • CharacteristicsClassifications for filtering
  • Attachments and user fieldsIndividual additional information

Components for production BOMs are typically stock items. Items with sales or reference BOMs are not stock items.

Use in production orders

When a production order is created for a finished product, the defined component items are automatically included:

  • They are drawn up during production.
  • Your actual costs (material, labour, additional services) are recorded.
  • the Cost allocation takes place via G/L account determinationdirectly in the parts list line.

Role in material requirements planning (MRP)

Of the Disposition assistant analyses requirements from orders and forecasts. In doing so:

  • parts lists are exploded,
  • the requirement for component parts is calculated,
  • and procurement proposals are generated (e.g. purchase requisitions for purchased parts).

The MRP parameters defined in the article master control how procurement and planning take place.

Further contexts

  • In Sales parts lists components are compiled during dispatch. Items of the type "Labour" are permitted here, but not resources.
  • in the Project report the actual costs of the components are shown separately - differentiated according to material, resources and other services
