Data ownership in SAP Business One is a feature that allows managers to precisely control access rights for documents. Managers can define authorisations for employees and document types, even at line level. Superuser are exempt from these restrictions, as they have full access to all functions.
The access rights defined for business documents and objects in the SAP Business One client automatically apply to the "General overview" web client application. An additional option is the management of data ownership by branch, provided this function is activated.
The setup requires that the "Enable data ownership" option in the main menu under Administration → System initialisation → General settings is activated. Users can then choose between management by document, business partner or both. If business partners are not assigned to a user, authorisations are defined per document.
Data ownership protects company data through predefined authorisations and ensures that only authorised users have access. The function therefore offers security mechanisms to secure personal and company data.
