Comments Off on Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC)
Each shipping unit, such as a pallet, carton, parcel, etc., is automatically assigned a "Serial Shipping Container Code" (formerly "Shipping Unit Number" (SSN)). This is a globally unique and unmistakable sequence of numbers that enables shipments to be tracked across companies from the sender to the recipient.
The SSN has 18 digits, is generally used for identification in the Goods Receipt is used and can be queried or used by all participants in the corresponding transport chain. This ensures that all participants can follow the transport, the handover or the tracing of the consignment. It can also be used for possible recall actions.
Important: The establishment of the SSCC as the central key for access to Packages in electronic data interchange, EDI for short, ensures that an identity is assigned to a package at all stages of the supply chain. For machine readability of the SSCC, it is mapped in the GS1-128 barcode.
