Bin Location Management in SAP Business One refers to the management of Storage bins within a warehouse, meaning the fine-grained assignment of stock quantities to defined storage locations below the warehouse level. This not only records which warehouse an item is in, but also which specific storage location it is on.
Context
In SAP Business One, warehouse locations are activated separately for each warehouse. Activation is done in the SAP Business One client under administration, Definition, Inventory, Stock. Only afterwards can storage locations be selected and quantities assigned in document lines. During inventory relocation, the system further separates the assignment into Storage Location Assignment Outgoing and Storage Location Assignment Incoming, so that source and destination locations are clearly documented. The procedure is commercially relevant wherever a warehouse is large enough to become inefficient without storage location management, for example in retail with a broad product range or in warehouses close to production with changing pick paths.
Demarcation
A classic warehouse without activated storage bins only knows the warehouse level itself. Bin Location Management supplements this level with storage bins as an additional structural unit. As long as storage bins are not activated for a warehouse, the corresponding fields in the document lines are not available. Bin location management is therefore not an independent warehouse, but an optional refinement within an existing warehouse.
