Custom object (SAP Business One)

  • Definition: A user-defined object (UDO) in SAP Business One is a logical structure consisting of one or more tables that maps certain processes. Each UDO can use predefined functions (services). Examples of objects are Quotations, orders or article master data.
  • Basis: UDOs are based on user-defined tables (UDT) and user-defined fields (UDF)which together form the metadata for the object.
  • Creation: A UDO is created in two steps:
    1. Definition of the Data storage structure through UDTs and UDFs.
    2. Creation of the user-defined object via a wizard that links the metadata to the object.
  • Object types: There are two main types:
    • base data: For static data (e.g. article master data).
    • Receipt: Also contains document-specific functions such as Document numbering or closing of documents.
  • Application: The choice of object type depends on the application. A Master data object usually consists of a Main table (master data) and one Row table (master data rows).
  • Advantages:
    • Automatic linking of tables by SAP Business One.
    • No manual programming required.
  • Creation process with wizard: The creation takes place via the Object registration wizard (Menu: EXTRAS > CUSTOMISING TOOLS). Important steps:
    • Setting of ID, name and type of the object.
    • Selection of the Main table.
    • Registration of the Services (e.g. add, update, search).
    • Automatic creation of a Window and menu item for the property.
    • Definition of Search fields and fields to be displayed.
    • Integration of Sub-tables.
  • Result: After registration, you will receive a Fully functional SAP Business One mask available, in which data such as accessories created, searched and updated can be - without programming.
