Instead of delivering an order completely in one step, companies can use this function to process orders step by step - depending on availability, logistics or customer requirements.

Context and area of application:
The "Allow partial delivery of order" option is a setting in the business partner master data record. If this is activated, several follow-up documents - such as delivery notes or invoices - can be generated from a single sales order without all items having to be delivered at the same time.
This function is typically used in the sales process, especially for Articles with varying availability or for partial call-offs by the customer.

Differentiation from similar terms:
In contrast to the Complete deliveryin which the entire Order is completed in a single delivery, the Partial delivery flexible processing. This also differs from Partial invoiceswhich work in a similar way, but reflect the financial aspect (not the physical delivery).

Example:
A sales order contains seven different article items. If the partial delivery option is activated, the retailer can initially only deliver three of these items. The sales order remains open until the remaining four items have also been delivered - either in one or several further partial deliveries.

Additional notes on system logic:

  • A sales order is marked as "closed" by the system if the quantity delivered equals or exceeds the quantity originally ordered (overdelivery).
  • If only one part is delivered, the order remains open. Manual closure is also possible if no further deliveries are planned.
