The subledgers are an important component of the Accounting of a company. They are used to record detailed information about certain financial transactions that are not recorded in detail in the general ledgers (e.g. in the general ledger). These sub-ledgers allow for more detailed and specific recording and analysis of certain business transactions. The most common sub-ledgers include

- Cash book: All cash transactions are recorded here, both income and expenditure.
- Goods book (stock ledger): This book contains detailed records of a company's goods movements and stocks.
- Accounts receivable ledger (customer ledger): All transactions with customers, including credit sales, are recorded in this ledger.
- Accounts payable ledger (supplier ledger): In this ledger, all transactions with Delivery in particular purchases on credit.
- Fixed asset ledger: This ledger contains detailed information on the company's fixed assets, including acquisition costs, depreciation and book values.
- Bank book: This contains all transactions that are processed via bank accounts.
The use of sub-ledgers allows a company to maintain accurate and specific accounts for different business areas. This makes it easier to monitor, manage and analyse financial transactions in these specific areas.
The sub-ledgers also support the preparation of the annual financial statements by providing detailed information for transfer to the general ledger.
