A workflow or work process is a defined sequence of Activities in a company. This workflow is often supported by standard or industry software. A workflow is therefore also referred to as the computer-aided automation of business processes, procedures or the forwarding of electronic documents (therefore also often referred to as process handling).
A workflow can be fundamentally distinguished from a business process. The two are closely related, but are not synonymous. A workflow is the automation of a business process. business process.
Workflows are standardised processes. This makes them ideal for automation. Among other things, a workflow specifies who has to carry out certain activities and when in order to complete the process. It also specifies who has to submit which documents so that everyone involved in the process has access to the required information.
Modern business software maps complete processes, not just a section or sub-section. This includes, among other things, checking and Authorisation of documents, orders, incoming invoices and similar. This also includes recording, account assignment and posting.
The workflow should not be confused with the business process. The two terms are closely related, but not synonymous. The business process is the template that is to be automated by a workflow.
