Bitkom study: Companies see their data in the cloud as safe

Even though Drive and the like are being used more and more frequently for data exchange, most people have not yet fully realised that the Business Software more and more companies are now turning to the cloud set. A Bitkom study has shown that already in 2016, two out of three companies in Germany outsource their data to the cloud service.

This means that usage has increased by over 20 per cent since 2014. Smaller companies in particular (20 to 99 employees) have also been using cloud solutions more and more frequently in recent years. Private cloud offerings are particularly popular (44 per cent), although companies mostly use external service providers.
The most popular, however, was the Saas (Software-as-a-Service) variant: 49 per cent of the companies surveyed already use system applications from the cloud. IaaS solutions (infrastructure services) are also successful (47 per cent), as are PaaS models (28 per cent), but only 23 per cent outsource their entire IT infrastructure to the cloud. In the survey, 554 companies with at least 20 employees in various sectors were interviewed by the subsidiary of the ITC industry association Bitkom.
