Once you have understood what an ERP system is and that it could be important for your company, it becomes really difficult. Because now it's about finding the right system. Maybe you need an ERP consultant.
The selection and subsequent implementation is a major step for any company. It is therefore common for small and medium-sized companies in particular to outsource these tasks to external consultants. However, it is also important to find the right one. But how can you recognise their expertise?

Check 1: Industry and Process NowHow
A new ERP system is not always just a task. It is also an opportunity for the company. Stuck processes are put to the test and there are many opportunities for process optimisation.
It goes without saying that ERP consultants should have a certain amount of industry knowledge and process experience. For example, if your company is project-orientated, it is also important that your consultant has knowledge of this type of work process (e.g. recording work performance). Furthermore, it does not always mean that large consulting firms are the better (more competent) option. Small consultancy firms often focus more specifically on a particular area.
Check 2: The right chemistry
Don't just rely on recessions. At the end of the day, it is also important whether the chemistry between your company and the consultant is right. Consultancy meetings are essential for this. Describe your company's ERP needs. The consultant will give you his assessment immediately. Do you have the feeling that he has "recognised" the company and knows what he is talking about? Very good. But don't be intimidated by phrases and jargon. Ask questions. The consultant should be able to explain everything clearly.
Check 3: Work on both sides
Did the ERP consultant draw your attention to the costs for the company? He should have in any case. After all, a successful implementation can only take place if the company is also involved. A constant exchange is necessary in order to processes in such a way that the company actually benefits from the introduction. More on the topic here.
Check 4: Weighing up in case of doubt
You have an offer from a consultant on the table and are not quite sure whether you are happy with it. Get a second quote. That's your right! In many companies, it is common practice to decide between different consultants in this way anyway. On the basis of a detailed offer, it is often best to judge which consultant is best suited to the company.
Check 5: Ask for references
Although reference customers are not always a reason for making a decision (see Check2), it is worth taking a closer look at them if the feeling is right. Get in touch with them.
Check 6: Rejected? Top!
Have you heard that your provider has often rejected or referred customers? This is not a sign of a lack of expertise, but a very precise knowledge of your own. A good ERP consultant knows what they can do and what is best for your company.
Gut feeling for the ERP consultant
At the end of the day, choosing the right ERP consultant always involves a healthy dose of luck. In project collaboration, a good human basis is particularly important. In case of doubt, you can only recognise this with a gut feeling.
