direct distribution rule (SAP Business One)

A rule in the Cost accounting module of the SAP Business One system, which allocates costs and revenues directly to the profit centres according to their specific business function.

E-invoicing in Germany: How to implement the obligation with SAP Business One

In SAP Business One, this function makes it possible to split the costs of an invoice between several cost centres or projects. This rule is based on the application of a percentage rate to cost centres or projects. This method enables accurate cost allocation and cost management.

Functionality of the direct allocation rule

With this rule, expenses or income are allocated directly and without detours to one or more cost centres. This one-dimensional distribution makes it possible to distribute the entire amount of a posting to the selected cost centres.

Areas of application

The direct allocation rule is primarily used when posting expenses and revenue and can be used both when creating documents and for manual postings in the ledger be applied.

advantages

  • Simple and transparent cost and revenue allocation
  • Clarity in cost centre accounting
  • Enables the creation of precise and meaningful reports

Difference to indirect allocation

In contrast to direct distribution, SAP Business One also offers the option of indirect, multidimensional distribution. In this case, an amount is distributed to several cost centres and dimensions using distribution keys, which enables more detailed but also more complex cost accounting.

Setup and use

The allocation rules can be found under Financial accounting > Cost accounting > Allocation rules in SAP Business One. The appropriate rule can then be selected and applied when creating documents or postings.

The direct allocation rule is therefore an effective tool for precise and comprehensible cost accounting and is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized companies with manageable cost structures.

Versino Financial Suite

the Versino Financial Suite supplements the direct allocation rule in SAP Business One with automation, a centralised overview, extended evaluations and plausibility checks. This allows companies to benefit from more efficient, transparent and secure cost allocation and analyses.
