In the context of SAP Business One, the CNC (Computerised Numerical Control) machine refers to a computer-controlled machine tool that is always managed in the system as a machine type and is a critical resource for mapping machine-supported processes. Manufacturing processes in the SME environment.
In SAP Business One, a CNC machine is first entered in the resource master record. The machine type is linked to a fixed asset, whose data is taken from the asset master data directory. This creates a consistent mapping of the entire life cycle of the machine, from procurement and depreciation through to possible disposal. In addition, resources in SAP Business One can be categorised as Laboratory, Machine or Other, whereby the CNC machine always falls into the Machine category in the system.
The CNC machine plays a central role in production and capacity planning. It is stored as a resource in bills of materials and the defined work steps (route stages). As a result, the machine directly influences the production time required for the individual production stages. Specialist users must therefore define and monitor the daily capacity of the CNC machine. The system can then plan the timing of a Production order by taking the available capacities into account. For example, a required resource time of 100 hours with a daily capacity of 20 hours can be allocated over five days.
The CNC machine is also essential in cost accounting. The utilisation costs are defined in the resource master record, for example as total costs per hour. These costs can be distributed via various cost elements such as production recovery or overhead recovery, for which corresponding allocation accounts must be defined. The costs of the machine type are then included in the calculation of the production costs (Production Standard Cost) of the end product. This enables SAP Business One to precisely analyse the costs of the machine-supported processes and calculate product costs accurately.
In SAP Business One, the CNC machine is always recognised as a machine type within the Resource management and thus differs from other resource types such as laboratory or other. At the same time, although it is linked to a fixed asset, it remains a production-relevant resource in the system context and not just a pure balance sheet item. While the fixed asset represents the financial life cycle of the machine, the resource type Machine describes the operational utilisation in production, capacity planning and cost allocation.
