Web Client (SAP Business One)

Of the Web Client (SAP Business One) is a browser-based alternative to the classic SAP Business One client. Companies can use it in parallel with the classic client or in place of it.

Use and requirements

The web client is particularly suitable for cloud environments. Its strength is especially evident on mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. In version 10.0, the web client runs on both SAP HANA and Microsoft SQL Server. SAP recommends the browsers Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari (for Mac and iPad). Currently, the web client supports 50 localizations for 170 countries. Users start it via a button in the classic client or directly via the web address in the browser. The login screen is identical in both cases.

The web client is based on a different technology than the classic client. Therefore, the operation differs. The home page consists of tiles. A tile is a link that opens an SAP Fiori app. The interface is responsive: tiles and fields adapt to the width of the browser window. The list view corresponds to the search in the classic client. It offers filters, grouping, and export to Microsoft Excel. Analysis tiles and overview pages complement the lists. Users customize the home page in edit mode and create their own tile groups.

Functionality and development

The functionality now largely corresponds to that of the classic client. The functions important for daily work are fully available. However, individual functions are still missing: The campaign is only available in the classic client as of 2026. With version 11, planned for 2027, development is expected to be completed. For this version, SAP has additionally announced enhancements for cloud operations and support for artificial intelligence.

License and password-protected mode

Every SAP user has the right to use SAP Business One through one of the available clients: the classic client, the web client, or the mobile clients. A parallel deployment is possible. However, because of the different operation methods, a client is recommended. However, parallel use is advisable if a function is missing in the web client. Administrators can also start the web client in read-only mode. The setting is located under Administration, System Initialization, Permissions, General Permissions. In read-only mode, users can only filter, save new views, use Enterprise Search, and edit sharing requests. The setting takes effect the next time the client is started.

Demarcation

The web client is one of several clients for SAP Business One. It differs from the classic client in terms of technology, operation, and access via the browser. The mobile clients Mobile Sales and Mobile Service are separate clients.
