Agent Services (SAP B1)

E-invoicing in Germany: How to implement the obligation with SAP Business One

Of the Agent Services (SAP B1) refers to an application of the SAP Business One Remote Support Platform that runs directly on customer systems and performs automated maintenance and support tasks.

In practical use, this agent communicates with a backend management system at SAP to exchange data, tasks and status information. As a result, this architecture enables proactive system maintenance and rapid problem solving without direct manual intervention on site.

For medium-sized companies in particular, the SLD Agent Service (System Landscape Directory Agent) is of central importance. This serves as a key component for centralised deployment in SAP Business One and performs tasks that are commissioned by the System Landscape Directory (SLD) Control Center.

Central areas of responsibility

The SLD Agent performs critical administrative tasks that significantly reduce the workload of system administrators:

  • Database managementFurthermore, the agent carries out database deployments and upgrades
  • Remote installationIt also enables the installation of SAP Business One clients-components and the DI API from a distance
  • Protocol managementThe agent also moves log files to central folders for simplified monitoring

Differentiation and practical benefits

Unlike manual maintenance processes, the Agent Service works automatically and follows defined time intervals. The SLD Agent Heartbeat Timeout, for example, continuously reports the hardware utilisation to the SLD, while the Operation Timeout defines the maximum duration for installations and registrations.

The installation is always carried out automatically when registering a logical machine in the SLD Control Centre. Alternatively, administrators can implement the service manually using the Components Setup Wizard. GUI mode and silent mode are available, with the latter being particularly suitable for automated installations.
