Industry 4.0 was actually invented as a term by German government agencies. It is a reference to previous industrial revolutions that took place in the 18th and 19th centuries. The third digital revolution was characterised by data processing and ultimately gave rise to the internet. In the fourth revolutionary era, machines and products are now to be constantly included in the exchange of data.
