Of the License Server is the central component of SAP Business One license management. It manages all license requirements in the company, checks the installed license file, and assigns specific license quotas to individual users. Since version 8.8, it also takes on the role of Security Servers and manages central security topics such as the site user and the encryption of tenant passwords.
Context
The License Server can be installed on any computer within the organisation. In standard installations, it resides on the HANA or SQL server host. In cloud scenarios (Cloudiax, Azure, AWS), it is installed on a hosted Windows or Linux host. The license file is generated by SAP upon request and contains the purchased user types (Professional, CRM, Logistics, Indirect Access, Starter Pack), additional components (DI Server, B1i, SAP Integration Framework) and add-on activations. Via an external API can partner and third-party add-ons query information from the license server. Common sources of error include: licenses not being assigned, differing domains between clients and license server, time differences between computers, firewall blocks or unknown users on the license server host. A typical symptom is the message „This form is not a part of your software package.", which almost always goes back to one of these problems.
Demarcation
The License Server is not a specialist module and is not Database — he doesn't do accounting, sales, or CRM. He is also not equivalent to the Licence file self: The file is the product of the license application, the server is the runtime component that evaluates it. Compared to the System Landscape Directory (SLD), which configures the connections between clients and databases, the License Server exclusively manages licenses and security information.
