New mobile solution for the technical field service with SAP Business One

For SAP Business One customers, the choice of mobile solutions is getting better and better.
Two years ago there was only a choice between the SAP Business One mobile app and the mobile offering from coresystems, but now more and more offerings for SAP Business One are coming onto the mobile app market.

One solution, which is primarily aimed at the technical field service, comes from the Dortmund-based provider ePocket Solutions GmbH.

The focus here is on the following sectors:

  • Electrical installation
  • Facilities Management
  • Air conditioning and refrigeration technology
  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Technical customer service

The mobile solution, which can dock onto SAP Business One as well as numerous other ERP systems, has been developed for Android and Windows Mobile smartphones as well as for laptops with MS Windows.
Handyman Mobile is offline-capable and thus addresses a core need of the technical field service, which does not yet rely on nationwide mobile networks.
All important functions are available to the sales force:

  • Recording of working time
  • Recording of the material consumption
  • Create and comment on photos
  • Customised checklists
  • Inventory management
  • Asset management (service objects)
  • document management
  • Offline capability with synchronisation
  • Capture technician and customer signature
  • Sector-specific Dictionaries

The interface to SAP Business One was implemented as a typical add-on, whereby the data is exchanged in XML format. It is bidirectional and expandable. The typical SAP Business One processes were taken into account. This makes it possible to work with SAP B1 service activities and service orders. SAP Business One UDFs (user-defined fields) are also supported.

A typical process in SAP Business One looks like this:

  • A service order is created in SAP Business One and then transferred to the mobile app
  • Resource planning is opened from SAP Business One and the new order is scheduled for a technician
  • In the mobile app, the technician records times and materials, fills in checklists, uploads photos, etc.
  • The order will be, can be signed by the client
  • The entries are automatically transferred to SAP Business One.
  • In SAP Business One, the entered data is stored as a delivery note and the order report as a document in the order / attachment.
