On Audit trail It is the complete record of bookings, documents and changes that allows anyone to trace and review every business transaction from its inception to its completion.
Background
According to the GoBD, the processing of each business transaction must be traceable. Every booking requires a receipt (the receipt principle). An expert third party must be able to obtain an overview of the business transactions and the company’s situation within a reasonable time. The audit must be possible in both directions: progressively from the receipt to journals and accounts, and then to the balance sheet and tax return; and conversely in the opposite direction. This auditability applies to the entire retention period. In addition, there is the immutability: no one may alter a booking in such a way that the original content can no longer be determined. Changes and deletions to electronic bookings must be recorded by the company. If the accounting department adheres to these principles, it has probative value. This is a prerequisite for the tax office not to make any assumptions during the operational audit.
In SAP Business One
SAP Business One follows the principle of „tracing, but not deleting“. Journal entries and receipts cannot be deleted; only they can be cancelled or closed. For receipts with journal entries, the system generates its own cancellation receipt with the next higher receipt number. The original receipt retains the status of „Cancelled“. The sequential transaction number (primanota number) makes the sequence of entries always clear, even for pre-or post-dated entries. The “Origin” field shows which type of journal entry triggered a journal entry. Except for opening entries and directly recorded journal entries, it leads to the underlying entry. The linking plan graphically depicts all entry links. The change log in the Extras menu stores each change date and user and displays the record in the state before the change. Additionally, companies can block journal entries with a previous booking date in the entry settings.

The article describes the audit trail for the booking path of the Netting function in the Versino Financial Suite. Each Netting booking contains a reference text and is linked to the original documents. This creates a complete booking path for internal auditing, the tax advisor, and a possible annual financial statement audit. The audit trail is also preserved after the cancellation of individual Netting transactions.
