Of the Search mode In SAP Business One, a window mode is available where the user searches for data already present. Each window can be used in two modes: the search mode and the add-on mode.
Functionality
The button at the bottom left of the window shows the current mode: Add or Search. The window for master data such as article master data or business partner master data opens in Search mode. The window for motion data such as the customer order, on the other hand, opens in Add mode.
The user switches to the data search mode by clicking the button in the toolbar, the data search menu, or by pressing Ctrl+F. In a document, the cursor automatically jumps to the document number field, because documents are often searched using the document number.
Not every field accepts search terms. Fields without the ability to search are grayed out or not displayed. An example is the "Article type" field in the article metadata.
Search with Joker
The * star serves as a wildcard. It stands for any sequence of characters before or after the search term. SAP Business One automatically adds the star after the search term. The search term C in the Article Number field therefore returns all articles whose number begins with C. A C in the middle of the article number does not find this search. Capitalization does not matter. If the user enters only a single star in a field and clicks Search, they will receive a selection list. In the Users window, this list shows all users, for example.
Data loss during switching
If the user switches from adding items to the search mode, all the data entered just now is lost.
Demarcation
In the Add mode (SAP Business One), the user adds new data records. If they change a field in an existing record, the button at the bottom left changes from OK to Update. In addition to the search mode, SAP Business One offers additional search paths: the record buttons (first, previous, next, last record), the search field at the top right, the filtering of tables, and drag & relate. Related entries are search function, search template (SAP Business One), and formatted search (SAP Business One).
