Setoff

Versino Financial Suite

the Setoff In accounting practice, it refers to the offsetting of a claim with a liability owed to the same partner: both parties reduce their amounts, leaving only the difference amount intact.

Examples from practice

A company supplies goods to a construction company for 20,000 euros. At the same time, it owes the construction company a balance from the construction of a warehouse. Both parties agree to credit the goods delivery with the debt. This reduces the debt to the construction company by 20,000 euros. The reconciliation also occurs in the payroll calculation: When the period of a salary advance has expired, the employer calculates its claim against the employee’s salary claim. In the consolidated financial statements, the debt consolidation compares such claims and liabilities. The reason: An entity cannot have any claims or liabilities towards itself.

In SAP Business One

SAP Business One maintains receivables and liabilities on separate reconciliation accounts. If a company maintains customer and supplier relationships with a business partner, the „Linked Supplier/Customer“ field connects the two business partners. The open incoming and outgoing invoices can then be reconciled with each other. Additionally, the payment assistant can take into account the expected balances from suppliers and the outstanding balances from customers.
