Context
With version 10.0, SAP has replaced the previous Patch Levels (PL) with Feature Packages. While Patch Levels primarily fixed bugs, Feature Packages deliver specific functional enhancements – particularly for the Web Client. Each FP automatically includes all changes from previous packages. Therefore, separate reinstallation of older updates is no longer required.
The contents of a feature package are divided into three areas:
-
Functional Extensions — new fields, improved business logic, and web clientUpdates
-
Legal adjustments VAT, E-bill/ZUGFeRD and new reporting requirements
-
Technical stability — Bug fixes and support for current database versions (SQL Server, HANA)
As SAP Business One increasingly relies on cloud and web technologies, companies receive new functionalities exclusively through Feature Packages. Those using an outdated FP not only forgo security fixes but also miss out on efficiency improvements.
An FP update is generally less risky than a major version jump (e.g., from 9.3 to 10.0). Nevertheless, every update should first be checked in a test environment, as installed add-ons may be affected.
