A new release means a new version
There is always a release when one or more new features are tested and released in an existing system. Sell subsequent ERP provider new customers always the latest release.
With a release, we still differentiate between a „Minor Release“ and a „Major Release“:
Thereby means Minor ReleaseThe new version is a combination of several small changes and innovations. However, these represent a fundamental change for users. A minor release is usually installed in an update.
On Major Release in turn is a fundamental innovation in a system. These lead to major changes for users and often require training courses or Data migrations.

Version and update
Version simply refers to the status of a system in its Development. Versions do not necessarily have to be installed at the customer's site. A version that is released for installation at the customer's is called a release.
An update is simply the process of updating an existing system used by a customer to the latest version or release.
