A newly published book sheds light on SAP's cloud strategy.
If you look at the software landscape of German companies, SAP is well represented. It is true that much of what comes out of the system forge in Walldorf has a slightly dusty image. At the same time, however, SAP products embody consistency, reliability and development strength. This impression paints a very steadfast picture. This makes it all the more important for SAP to lighten it up a bit and make it lighter. To take off lightly - into the SAP Cloud.
SAP Cloud - a strategy
A "cloud strategy" has been tinkered with and fine-tuned for more than 13 years. And a lot has also happened in SAP's offering. The results are summarised in the book "SAP Cloud". The authors devote 460 pages to topics such as the native public cloud offering and SAP Business ByDesign, as well as On premise-products such as the Cloud in Business One.
But not only the individual products are explained. The authors also introduce the topic of the cloud by explaining SAP's position in this area right at the beginning. Very fundamental questions about cloud computing are also examined. To ensure that everything is understandable for both cloud gurus and cloud beginners, the application scenarios are presented using case studies. However, little attention is paid to the technical aspects, which should not be missing in the serious planning of a conversion to the cloud.
In addition to presenting the individual products, "SAP Cloud" also pays a lot of attention to the sensitive topic of cloud and security. The authors get quite specific here and use an example to show what security measures can look like. They also explain in detail how an SAP cloud solution is implemented.
A good overview of the SAP Cloud
All in all, this heavy tome does a good job of explaining how you can become "cloud-light" with SAP. SAP Cloud" offers a good insight, especially for beginners and disgruntled users of "heavy" systems. The book also offers many good approaches to implementing a cloud project with an SAP product. However, if you are seriously thinking about the cloud, you should consult an expert, especially with regard to the technical aspects.
