SAP Business One has long been known as cloud-licence model on the market. However, it was reserved for the SAP Business One partners to Software as a Service (SAAS) in their data centres.
Now, however, the offer is becoming "round". In the near future, the Business One Cloud powered by SAPHANA (the somewhat unwieldy name) will also be offered from SAP data centres. SAP announced this at the SAP SME Summit taking place today in New York. The offer will first be launched in the USA and then in Europe and Asia in 2016.
The approximately 50,000 existing customers run SAP Business One almost all On Premise, i.e. with purchased licences and on their own servers. This is set to change. The SAP offer is also made attractive to future cloud customers through additional integrated services. Services such as Backup and restore as well as disaster recovery are offered.
The functions of Business One Cloud do not differ from the on-premise version. The ERP software can be accessed via the browser. Older partner solutions and extensions to the standard can also already be licensed as a cloud service.
SAP's already rapidly growing revenues in the cloud business, which grew by 116 percent to 600 million euros in the past 12 months, are now also to be further increased by SAP Business One.
The provision of SAP Business One as a cloud service on "domestic" servers could be of particular significance for the European market and even more so for the German market. After all, much of the restraint that the local Medium-sized companies The scepticism about cloud-based ERP software is due to concerns about data security. Scepticism has now been fuelled by the Safe Lab ruling, as the European judgement means that much data can only be processed in Europe.
Another factor that makes SAP Business One from the cloud and from its own data centre attractive is also in SAP's hands: the price. This has not yet been communicated. ERP Software is used for a very long time, unlike other software systems. 10 years and more are not uncommon. In the case of a monthly rent, medium-sized entrepreneurs will include such a long period in their calculation when considering profitability.
