Even though Drive and Co are being used more and more frequently for data exchange, most people still haven't quite realised that even in the Business Software more and more companies are now turning to the cloud set. A Bitkom study has shown that already in 2016, two out of three companies in Germany outsource their data to the cloud service.
This means that usage has increased by over 20 per cent since 2014. Smaller companies (20 to 99 employees) in particular have been using cloud solutions more and more frequently in recent years. Private cloud offers are particularly popular (44 percent), although companies mostly use external service providers.
The most popular, however, was the Saas (Software-as-a-Service) variant: 49 percent of the companies surveyed already use system applications from the cloud. IaaS solutions (infrastructure services) are also successful (47 percent), or PaaS models (28 percent). However, only 23 percent store their entire business processes to the cloud.
What is surprising is that, at least among the companies surveyed that are in the context of cloud The security concerns that have always been writ large are probably history: Only four per cent believe that their data is "very insecure" or "somewhat insecure". 37 per cent considered themselves to be in the middle of the pack, but a full 57 per cent consider their data to be "very secure" or "fairly secure" in the cloud.
In the survey, 554 companies with at least 20 employees in various sectors were interviewed by the subsidiary of the ITC industry association Bitkom.
