A bill of materials that describes the components used to manufacture a finished or semi-finished product. In contrast to a sales or assembly bill of materials, the production bill of materials is created after a work has been produced.
The production bill of materials (also: production BOM) is a central structure within SAP Business One for mapping all components that are required to manufacture an end product. It contains information on Articles, resources, Quantities, costs and - optionally - explanatory texts. The "parent item" refers to the finished product, while the items included can be stock items, BOM items (semi-finished products) or phantom items.
Components:

Article: Materials that are used directly or indirectly in production.

Resources: Machines, workstations or tools used in the production process.

Texts: Long texts or predefined text modules, e.g. for route maps or notes.

Capacity data: Information on available resources or working hours.
Special features:
Phantom articles are used for structuring without independent warehouse management. Texts can be flexibly inserted into the parts list - helpful for production instructions or documented additional information.
Function in the system:
The production bill of materials forms the basis for the automatic generation of production orders. During order creation, SAP Business One takes over all relevant components, resources, costs and material availability. This enables consistent, quantity-based management and control of the production process.
Multi-level parts lists:
SAP Business One allows multi-stage production structures to be mapped so that semi-finished products can also be correctly taken into account. This allows complex production processes to be systematically planned and managed.
