Of the General reversal key (short: GU key, standard (key 20 by default) is an internal DATEV identifier that flags a booking as a reversal of a previous booking. DATEV evaluates this identifier to correctly balance cancellations and corrections in the firm's software.
Context
In the Versino Financial Suite, from v04.2026 onwards, a configurable setting controls which postings receive the GU key. Three modes are available: account-based (only postings to defined accounts), reversal-based (only explicit SAP B1 reversal transactions), and document-based (all reversal postings). Before v04.2026, the VFS applied the GU key across the board – this led to credit notes being incorrectly transmitted as reversal postings to DATEV, resulting in a factually incorrect representation there. Demarcation
The "GU key" is not a general indicator of a negative balance. Not every booking with a negative amount is a reversal booking in the DATEV sense. For example, credit notes reduce a balance but are not cancellations – therefore, the differentiated assignment of the GU key from v04.2026 is relevant for accounting purposes.
