
A debenture, also known as a bond, is a security that securitises a debt owed by the issuer (the issuer) to the holder. The holder of the bond lends the issuer capital for a fixed term and receives regular interest payments in return. At the end of the term, the originally borrowed capital is repaid. For companies, the issue of bonds is a form of financing. Debt financing. In contrast to shares, which make the holder a co-owner, the holder of a bond has no co-determination rights in the company.
