Payment terms in SAP Business One determine the period within which an invoice must be paid. They are determined by the terms of payment and regulate both the due date and possible discount periods.

Structural elements:
- Net due date: The last possible date for payment without deduction.
- Discount periods: Periods within which a discount is granted. Several periods and rates are possible.
- Tolerance days: A buffer for the due date - typically for internal goodwill arrangements.
- Payment by instalments: Payment terms can be configured so that several due dates with instalments are created.
Technical configuration:
- Terms of payment are published centrally at Administration → Definition → Business partners → Terms of payment maintained.
- The deadline calculation can be based on Document date, Booking date or System date The recommended basis is the document date.
- The starting point of the deadline can be fine-tuned (e.g. start, middle or end of the month).
- Payment periods can be Days or months must be specified.
Practical application:
- In documents (e.g. invoices), the due date is automatically calculated based on the business partner's payment terms.
- The deadline is decisive for the dunning process. Overdue amounts are shown in the report Maturity of customer liabilities displayed.
- In the payment wizard, the deadline can be used as a filter criterion for payment runs.
- Instalments and their due dates are automatically calculated and displayed when a corresponding payment term is selected.
- An average payment delay can be stored in the business partner master record, which is taken into account in the cash flow forecast.
Care instructions:
- Standard payment terms can be found under Administration → System initialisation → General settings → GP define.
- Sales price lists must be linked for customers and purchase price lists for suppliers.
- Due dates for posting periods should be set far enough into the future to work correctly beyond annual limits.
Example: A payment term with 30 days net due date and 2 % discount for payment within 10 days means that the system automatically calculates and displays a discount due date in 10 days and a final due date in 30 days when the invoice is created.
