„So, what did you do at work today?“ – if this question leaves you stumped and pondering, a newly published study might help. It presents the results of research carried out by DJS Research Ltd (UK) in April 2017, which asked companies around the world how much time employees need for which tasks. 1,505 office employees from 11 countries in companies with at least 100 employees were surveyed.

The result: on average, employees spend 552 hours a year working on administrative and repetitive tasks. This takes up 69 working days and therefore a third of annual working time. This results in enormous administrative costs for companies - all in all, 5 trillion dollars are spent on admin work each year. Dollars are spent on admin work. The USA is in the lead with 2.87 tr. dollars in administrative costs.
More productive: Norway and Sweden
According to the study, people are also most productive in Norway. They dedicate a full 81 percent of their working time to their main tasks. The Norwegians are closely followed by the Swedes with 78 percent and France with 76 percent. The least time is spent in Singapore at 60 percent. It is notable overall that older employees require more time for their main tasks than younger ones. However, younger employees are more inclined towards the automation of routine work. Many of the younger respondents, in particular, are of the opinion that investment should be made in appropriate technology for this purpose. Overall, however, a total of 67 percent share this view. Almost three-quarters of respondents in Germany can imagine a „digital assistant“ that takes over administrative tasks. In Spain or Sweden, on the other hand, this would be a conceivable option for almost everyone. Let's see where this is going Work 4.0.
