Here a new "release", there another "update" - and there a "new" "version"...
Innovations in systems are often referred to by these words. But what do the terms actually mean? We took a closer look to see which definitions can be established.
A new release means a new version
A release always occurs when one or more innovations in an existing system are tested and released. Connect sell ERP provider new customers always the latest release.
With a release, we differentiate between a "minor release" and a "major release":
Thereby means Minor Releasethe composition of several small changes and innovations. However, these mean a fundamental change for the user. A minor release is usually installed in an update.
On Major Release again is a fundamental innovation in a system. This leads to major changes for the users and often demands training courses or Data migrations.
Version and update
Version simply refers to the status of a system in its Development. Versions do not necessarily have to be installed at the customer's site. A version that is released for installation at the customer's is called a release.
An update is simply the process of updating an existing system used by a customer to the latest version or release.
