Dimension mapping (SAP Business One)

Dimension mapping in SAP Business One is a cost accounting tool that enables financial data to be analysed from different perspectives. It offers companies the opportunity to gain detailed insights into their business data and make well-founded decisions.

Definition

Dimension mapping allows bookings to be linked to dimensions, i.e. user-defined categories. These dimensions can represent various business aspects, such as

Purpose

Through dimension mapping, financial data can be broken down and analysed in order to Profitability and Efficiency of individual business areas. This supports strategic planning and optimisation.

Functionality

When entering postings (e.g. journal entries or receipts), the corresponding dimensions can be assigned directly. This structures the data in the system and prepares it for later analyses.

Example

An incoming invoice for office supplies can be assigned to the "Marketing cost centre" dimension. This shows which costs were incurred specifically in the marketing department.

Reports

SAP Business One offers various reports for analysing financial data by dimension. One example is the Distribution reportwhich shows in detail which transactions were posted to which dimensions. This allows specific conclusions to be drawn and weak points to be identified.
